Important information for picking up at the game fair in Essen, Germany
almost 5 years ago – Tue, Jun 11, 2019 at 11:17:25 PM

Pledge manager email will soon be in your inbox!

I just finished the installation of the pledge manager email. Within a week you should receive an email from "BackerKit" asking you to confirm your data and to add some more copies of 1824, 18CZ, or 18Lilliput if you wish.

The time plan in detail: It will take two days until BackerKit has reviewed my set up. Then it will start a smoke-test meaning only a few addresses will receive the email. If something went wrong I still have time to fix the bug. And then all of you will get the survey.

Important: Essen pick up!!

If you wish to pick up your games at the game fair in Essen, Germany, in October this year I set up the "Christmas Island" trick: Please choose "Christmas Island" as your country, then your shipping cost will be zero €, and I can easily sort it out.

Pledge Manager
almost 5 years ago – Tue, May 21, 2019 at 09:03:38 PM

Hi!

In two or three weeks you will receive an email from our pledge manager "BackerKit". It will ask you to confirm your data and if you want to add on some more games. You may choose to add mote copies of 1824 or additional copies of 18CZ and/or 18Lilliput. For these two games you may choose between the English/German version or the Czech version.

BackerKit will also add Shipping costs. They will be shown before you make your final confirmation. If you add on some games the shipping costs will rise. Please try out by how much.

Thank you!

It's done!
almost 5 years ago – Sun, May 19, 2019 at 12:41:59 PM

788 backers contributed 68,736 € to make this project a reality. All the stretch goals were reached. Thank you very much!

It is overwhelming. 1824 is my third game I financed via kickstarter. Each time I got more backers than I expected. With my first campaign "18CZ" I just jumped in at the deep end and told myself: If I get more than 150 backers I will be satisfied, more than 200 would be great. But it ended with almost 400 backers ordering 550 copies!

Last year I started my second project "18Lilliput" with more self-confidence.  I set myself the target of 500 backers. Think positive, I said to myself - it's a smaller game which might attract more people.

The campaign ended with the unbelievable number of 1,158 backers!

And when I startet my third campaign of 1824 a month ago, I told me: Be reasonable. It is a reprint. A lot of 18xx players already own it. So I expected 300, maybe 400 backers. But 788 people like you supported this project! Again: Thank you!

I promise: It won't be the last kickstarter campaign from me. The next 18xx game is under progress. :-)

Goods Time
almost 5 years ago – Sun, May 19, 2019 at 04:20:45 AM

We reached 60,000 Euros. Wow!

This means the "Goods Time Variant" becomes reality.

The goods time variant is easily explained: You will get some markers to indicate more towns on the map. And you will get more track tiles to  build track through these towns.

More towns mean more income  for goods trains (because towns do not count against the range of a  goods train) and less income for normal trains (because towns do count  against the range of a normal train and gain only small income). Track building becomes more challenging!

Details of the 2-player version
almost 5 years ago – Sun, May 19, 2019 at 04:19:48 AM

As requested by several backers I will explain the 2-player-version in short.

As you can see on the mapboard there are eight minor railways in play.

Each player gets four of them, one will function just as construction railway. When the game progresses players will convert their minors in major companies (like in the basic game), each player will own two major companies.

Shares of a fifth - independent - company will be available from beginning. It's share price starts at 50 in the bottom line of the table, and it always pays it's share price as dividend.

You will also notice the bankpool on the mapboard. If a player buys shares out of the bankpool he may exceed the 70% limit (maximum of shares a player may hold of one company).

The 2-player-version follows the rules of the basic game. Because only minor companies operate from the beginning an aggressive share price dumping game is avoided (like in 1800-Colorado). Nevertheless, later in the game, when tha major companies act, players have to decide whether to ruin the opponents share price by selling his shares or to keep them as an investment.
